Health Requirements that Must be Fulfilled By Prospective Pilot School Students

As a person in charge of a flight, health is certainly the main focus in the smooth conditions during the trip. For pilots and prospective pilots they must meet the health requirements commonly referred to as Medical Examination (MEDEX), and this requirement also applies to all flight attendants - flight attendants, air traffic controllers, flight engineers, flight navigators, flight operation officers and other license holders determined by regulator. For Indonesia, medex is carried out in aviation health center (Hatpen).

But do you know what tests must be passed to be declared eligible for flight or flight education? The following are MEDEX procedures:

Laboratory Check

This process includes urine blood checks to find out, among others, cholesterol levels, uric acid, triglycerides, hemoglobin, and others. At this stage the flight members or candidates will also be known if they have drug and alcohol dependence.

Audiometry test

This test is a kind of hearing test to find out that our hearing is still normal or not, it is important to receive information that will be conveyed during the flight.

Dental Check

As we all know, that to be a pilot or steward is not permitted to have cavities. This can be overcome by patching all the teeth that have problems or holes. Though this for those of you who use dentures or stirrups is still allowed.

Eye Check

The use of glasses is actually permitted, but with certain restrictions this is based on every flight school or airline regulation. And for those of you who have been in lasik, still be allowed.

X-rays

X-rays or x-rays are done to check the inside of your body, especially the lungs that are recommended all in good condition.

Heart Test

This test is also commonly referred to as ECG, and the process will be passed by lying around 15 minutes or checking can be done while running on a treadmill. All of these processes will be passed with your body connected to a cable checking device as a connector, this is to record the condition of your heart.

Physical check

Many prospective pilots or stewards who consider this stage to be the most difficult and tense, because during the inspection we are only allowed to wear clothing to a minimum to check our physicality as a whole. During this test we will be asked questions about the history of the disease that we have experienced, or an accident that caused fractures and others.

Electro Encephalography

Or commonly called EEG is a procedure of knowing whether we have a brain or psychiatric disorder. So our heads will be installed with cables similar to ECG, we also have to lie down and relax, close our eyes. Relaxing position is very important during checking because the process will fail and be repeated from the beginning. And for this one process, checks will be carried out at Lakespra MT Haryono or at Gatot Subroto Army Hospital. Hatpen will provide a recommendation letter for EEG if another medex process has been passed.

After you have passed all your tests, you will be given a small yellow certificate that is valid for 12 months for prospective pilot school students. And as information there are 3 main diseases that have been confirmed not to pass Medex, including heart disease, color blindness, and epilepsy.
