IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT PILOT AND FLIGHT

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT PILOT AND FLIGHT

As a lay passenger, of course not much information we know about the world of aviation and what happens behind the cockpit space. And for those of you who aspire to become a pilot, it is important to know a few things below to prepare your mentality during the education process.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT PILOT AND FLIGHT

1. Turbulence, not the main cause of safety problems.

Turbulence or shocks while on a plane is indeed creepy, not infrequently many passengers will be worried about this disorder. But you don't need to worry too much, turbulence is a natural thing experienced by aircraft when flying at different air pressure. It can also be affected by the weather, but this is certainly anticipated for the crew on duty in the cockpit room.

2. Take Off is a risky time during a flight.

If a pilot is asked when is the most risky time during a flight, then the answer is takeoff. This is due to the condition of the aircraft when taking off is quite heavy and full of fuel, then fly at a relatively low speed, engine failure can occur and can be fatal. If it happens, it needs fast handling. Therefore, the engine failure simulator when the flight is always carried out every 6 months to 1 year.

3. Autopilot only helps, not replacing the work of Pilots and Copilot.

Despite having an autopilot device, this will not replace the actual pilot's task. Autopilot does help all vertical and horizontal navigation settings, but not for takeoff and landing. That requires special training. When transitioning from one position to another, a pilot needs to go through special training, including classes and simulator training in order to use this facility properly. So after taking off or before landing, the pilot can do something else as long as the autopilot is run. They can read the newspaper, or play a puzzle. Because these activities can resist sleepiness, especially if the autopilot has been activated. But this does not mean the pilot is always relaxed when in the cockpit. Every now and then they also communicate with air traffic control and aircraft monitoring parties.

4. Turning Off the Cellphone Signal, Mandatory!

Although cellphone signals do not interfere with many aircraft equipment, passengers should still not turn on their cellphones. But if you want to turn on your cellphone, during flight you can activate 'Airplane Mode' or 'flight mode' on your phone. So, even if you can't communicate, you can still listen to music or even take photos while on the plane. Not only that, passengers are also expected to turn off all electronic equipment owned. The main reason is that the frequency or wave of electronic devices can affect changes in flight acceleration. Recently there are some airlines that understand your need to stay connected to the internet, so they facilitate passengers with Wifi while traveling on the plane.

5. The thing the pilot does if the landing wheel fails to open

This will happen when the wheel does not show "down and locked" when the pilot tries to lower it with the equipment in his hand. If that doesn't work, the pilot will open the "uplocks" which are hooks of the gear guard that are stored in certain positions during the flight. If that still fails, the gears can be extended by hand using a crank.

The things above may look very simple, but it is important for us to know in order to anticipate all possibilities when making a flight.
